A 40-year-old man from Epworth, who had offered temporary shelter to a woman fleeing domestic violence, was arrested on Sunday on allegations of murder.
The suspect, Prosper Tenga, was taken into custody after an altercation involving Tafadzwa Magwidi (28) and his wife, Tariro Chinanga (25). According to initial reports, the couple had been involved in a heated domestic dispute during which Tafadzwa allegedly assaulted Tariro.
Fearing for her safety, Tariro sought refuge at Prosper’s home. Tafadzwa later followed her there, where Prosper and a neighbour attempted to mediate and resolve the couple’s differences.
However, tensions escalated, leading to a confrontation between Prosper and Tafadzwa. Police allege that during the dispute, Prosper struck Tafadzwa once on the head using an axe handle. Tafadzwa sustained an injury and left the house while bleeding, reportedly making his way to Zimbabwe Republic Police in a commuter omnibus.
During the journey to file his report, Tafadzwa collapsed. Prosper was subsequently arrested, and the case was recorded at ZRP Epworth under RRB 6768126.
