BEITBRIDGE – Four people have been arrested in Beitbridge for unlawful possession of dagga during a police operation targeting cross-border criminal activities.
The suspects, identified as Mutema Kanengoni (38), Pretty Sibanda (40), Shamiso Mapingire (38) and Blessing Murefu (34), were arrested on November 1, 2026, by officers deployed under Operation No to Cross Border Crimes.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) confirmed the arrests, saying the four were found in possession of dagga.
“The suspects are currently in police custody and will appear in court soon,” police said.
The arrests form part of ongoing police efforts to clamp down on drug-related offences and other criminal activities associated with cross-border movements.
These arrests come amid growing concern over the proliferation of illicit drugs and substances in Zimbabwe, with Government intensifying efforts to curb drug abuse and trafficking.
Despite the ongoing enforcement operations, the spread of drugs remains a major public health and social challenge, particularly among young people, placing pressure on authorities to strengthen border controls, law enforcement and public awareness initiatives.
The ZRP has warned members of the public against possessing or trafficking illegal drugs, adding that operations to combat cross-border crime would continue.
