Masvingo schools embrace digital learning

Government has intensified efforts to modernise education through the rollout of digital infrastructure, with Nyahanga and Mupapa primary schools in Chiredzi District becoming the latest beneficiaries under the Presidential Computerisation Programme.

Yesterday, the Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution for Masvingo, Ezra Chadzamira, handed over laptops, smartboards, printers, and projectors to the two schools, and officially commissioned a fully equipped computer laboratory at Nyahanga Primary School.

The development marks a major milestone in bridging the digital divide between urban and rural schools, as Government accelerates the integration of information communication technologies (ICTs) into the education system.

Speaking at the handover ceremony, Minister Chadzamira said the initiative aligns with Government’s vision of ensuring equal access to quality education.

“This programme is meant to ensure that no child is left behind in terms of access to technology. We are equipping our learners with the tools they need to compete in a digital world,” he said.

He added that the Presidential Computerisation Programme will be rolled out to all schools nationwide, in line with the National Development Strategy 2 (NDS2).

“We will continue implementing this programme until every school is fully equipped with modern ICT infrastructure. This is critical in improving the quality of education and preparing our learners for the future,” he said.

Community members in the area welcomed the initiative, describing it as transformative for rural education.

“This is a big step for our children. They will now have the same opportunities as those in urban areas and can compete equally,” said resident Tendai Mavhunga.

Parent, Lovemore Dube said the initiative would benefit the entire community. “This will not only benefit learners but the whole community. Our children will gain skills that can help improve their future,” he said.

Learners expressed excitement over the new technology, saying the introduction of computers and smart tools would enhance their learning experience.

Government continues to prioritise the digitalisation of education as a key pillar in enhancing access, improving quality, and ensuring learners are equipped with skills for the modern economy.
