Churches in Mt Darwin under various denominations have thrown their weight behind Constitution Amendment Bill No. 3, citing the need for national stability, continuity in Government programmes, and accelerated development.
The endorsement was made today during a public hearing held at BSPZ in Mt Darwin, chaired by Guruve North Member of Parliament, Tendai Pinduka.
The gathering drew a significant turnout of congregants and church leaders from across the district.
Speaking on behalf of the clergy, Pastor Chinoda of the Family of God Church urged Zimbabweans to support the Bill, describing it as a necessary step towards achieving national goals under Vision 2030.
“As the church, we stand for peace, order and progress. This Bill comes at a time when the country needs unity of purpose and continuity in development programmes that are already transforming communities.
We believe that giving leadership the opportunity to complete its mandate will bring tangible results that benefit all Zimbabweans, especially in rural areas like Mt Darwin,” he said.
Mudzidzi Shongedza of Vadzidzi vaJesu Apostolic Church echoed similar sentiments, highlighting the importance of stability in governance.
“As believers, we are guided by principles of unity and obedience to authority. What we are witnessing across the country in terms of infrastructure development and economic initiatives requires consistency. We therefore support this Bill as it promotes a stable environment that allows such progress to continue without disruption,” said Shongedza.
Pastor Jiri of the Church of Christ said that Government had initiated key projects that require time to be fully realised, adding that the Bill would ensure their completion.
“There is visible progress in various sectors, including roads, housing and social services. These are not short-term projects; they need continuity. As citizens and as the church, we must support frameworks that enable long-term planning and execution of national programmes,” he said.
Adding his voice, Pastor Willard Garanewako said the church’s endorsement reflects a broader desire for unity and collective national development.
“We are not only endorsing a Bill, but we are also endorsing a vision for a better Zimbabwe. Our role as the church is to guide, pray and support initiatives that uplift communities. We have faith in the leadership of President Emmerson Mnangagwa and believe that with continued support, the country will achieve its developmental aspirations,” said Pastor Garanewako.
ZANU PF Mashonaland Central Provincial Political Commissar, Paul Kamukombe, commended the churches for their active participation, saying their input reflects the voice of the people at grassroots level.
“This engagement demonstrates that citizens are taking part in shaping the future of their country. The support from the church shows a shared vision between the Government and communities,” he said.
He further explained the provisions of the Bill, including aspects relating to governance continuity, and urged citizens to contribute constructively to the legislative process.
The endorsement by Mt Darwin churches adds to growing support for Constitution Amendment Bill No. 3 across the country, as stakeholders continue to engage in public consultations aimed at strengthening Zimbabwe’s governance framework.
