Pres Mnangagwa urges ZANU PF members to uphold party constitution

ZANU PF members must remain guided by the ruling party’s Constitution and faithfully uphold its principles in the execution of their duties and responsibilities, President and First Secretary Cde Emmerson Mnangagwa has said.

Addressing the 392nd session of the Politburo in Harare yesterday, President Mnangagwa reminded party leaders and members of their obligation to remain loyal, disciplined and committed to the ideals of the revolutionary party.

“As the Politburo, we are all first and foremost party members, guided by the party Constitution, fundamentally about our duties and obligations,” said President Mnangagwa.

“I recall that the Secretary General recently gave all members of the Central Committee copies of our Amended Party Constitution (2022).”

“I exhort us to re-acquaint ourselves with provisions of Article 3, Section 19, sub-sections 1 to 8, on duties of members,” he added.

The President said the Constitution clearly outlines the conduct expected of every party member and provides the moral and ideological foundation upon which the party operates.

According to the provisions highlighted by the President, every party member is required to remain loyal to the party and its leadership while respecting and abiding by the Constitution, policies, rules and regulations of ZANU PF.

Members are also expected to conduct themselves in line with the principles of servant and exemplary leadership while promoting and defending the interests of the party at all times.

The Constitution further calls on members to popularise party policies and programmes while continuously raising their political and social consciousness.

Party members are also required to conduct themselves honestly and honourably in both public and private life.

“It further reads that every member dealing with the party and the public must not bring the party and its leadership into disrepute or ridicule,” President Mnangagwa said.

The Constitution also compels members to demonstrate patriotism towards Zimbabwe and to consistently fulfil financial obligations such as subscriptions and contributions required by the party.

President Mnangagwa’s remarks come at a time when the ruling party continues to emphasise discipline, unity and ideological grounding as key pillars in strengthening the organisation and consolidating national development efforts.
