Zimbabwe’s top jurist, Chief Justice Luke Malaba is presiding over a special sitting of the Constitutional Court of Zimbabwe as he concludes a distinguished judicial career spanning more than four decades.
The ceremony—attended by government officials, serving and retired judges, and members of the legal fraternity—comes ahead of his retirement at midnight on Thursday, in line with the Constitution’s mandatory age requirements.
Since 2017, Chief Justice Malaba has chaired the Judicial Service Commission, cementing his reputation as one of the country’s most seasoned and influential legal minds.
His journey in public service began in 1984 when he joined the judiciary as a prosecutor, steadily rising through the ranks until assuming the role of Chief Justice.
The special sitting of the Constitutional Court marks the closing chapter of a career that has significantly shaped the legal and judicial landscape of Zimbabwe, leaving a lasting imprint on the nation’s justice system.
