Hundreds of residents in Marondera have voiced strong support for the Constitutional Amendment Number 3 Bill, using the Presidential Borehole Drilling Programme as a platform to affirm their backing.
The latest phase of the Presidential Borehole Drilling Programme reached Marondera Central on Thursday, targeting long-standing water shortages affecting urban and peri-urban communities.
Mashonaland East Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution Itayi Ndudzo said the borehole programme would ease water shortages in the medium term while broader, long-term water solutions are implemented.
“As a province, we have endorsed Constitutional Amendment Number 3 Bill because of the benefits tied to its provisions,” he said.
Presidential Investment and Empowerment Advisor Paul Tungwarara described the initiative as an inclusive development effort aimed at improving lives across the nation.
“Today’s project is a promise fulfilled — ensuring clean water reaches every Zimbabwean. His Excellency’s vision is to bring water to every citizen, regardless of political affiliation. These boreholes are for everyone, and this shows he is a true father of the nation,” he said.Residents including some from the opposition gathered for the handover of new boreholes and expressed appreciation for the project while endorsing the proposed constitutional amendment.
“The boreholes will ease our water challenges. We are happy that each ward will receive one. As youths, we support Constitutional Amendment Number 3 Bill,” said one resident.
Another resident highlighted the immediate impact of the initiative:
“We have faced serious water shortages for years, so these boreholes bring real relief. Development programmes like this show that no one is being left behind.”
Following nationwide public hearings, the Constitutional Amendment Number 3 Bill is now set to be tabled before Parliament of Zimbabwe for debate.
