DeMbare Outclass Triangle as Bosso Share Spoils with Ngezi

Dynamos ended a six match winless run in style yesterday, beating Triangle United 3-0 at Rufaro Stadium with a first-half blitz that put the game to bed before halftime.

Captain Shadreck Nyahwa, Christopher Nettey, and Leeroy Mavhunga all scored in a dominant 22-minute spell that gave the Glamour Boys their first victory since March.

Nyahwa set the tone in the 12th minute with a thunderbolt from outside the box that left Triangle keeper Panashe Nyabunga with no chance.

Nettey made it 2-0 in the 18th minute after a neat exchange with Jairos Kasondo for his first league goal in DeMbare colors. Four minutes later, Mavhunga tapped home after Perfect Chikwende unselfishly squared it across goal to make it 3-0.

Triangle had chances to pull one back through Jayden Bakari and Emmanuel Paga, but Dynamos keeper Tatenda Makoni was equal to both, preserving a clean sheet.

The second half saw Triangle improving in possession but creating little, while Dynamos had the best chance to extend the lead when Chikwende was fouled in the box in the 74th minute. Kasondo stepped up but dragged his penalty wide.

Dembare Head coach Genesis “Kaka” Mangombe was pleased with the result but felt his side could have scored more.

“I’m happy, but if you can score many goals in a game like this, you need to capitalise. Maybe we should have scored five. But at the end of the day, what matters is the three points,” Mangombe said.

He added that tightening up on set-pieces had been a focus in training after conceding soft goals in recent weeks. “Today I’m happy there was no danger from crosses or corners.”

Triangle coach Lloyd Chitembwe admitted his side were off the pace early.
“The application was not on point, but it improved in the second half. At first we missed the fight. These are the games that make heroes and villains. Today we were not heroes,” he said.

Elsewhere, Highlanders were left to rue a string of missed chances as Ngezi Platinum held on for a 0-0 draw at Barbourfields, extending their unbeaten league run to 13 games.

The game’s defining moment came in the 56th minute when Mongameli Tshuma beat his marker in the box but chose to dribble instead of shooting, allowing Ngezi’s defense to block. It was the closest Bosso came to breaking the deadlock.

Highlanders controlled large spells and created the better openings, but lacked a cutting edge in front of goal. Darlington Mukuli, Royn Nyamono, and Benjamin Adeogun all had half-chances in the first half, but none tested Ngezi keeper cleanly.

Bosso Coach Benjani Mwaruwari didn’t hide his disappointment in the post-match interview.

“It was a clear chance to score than to miss. In the last game my substitutions worked perfectly. This week maybe I made bad substitutions, but I am also human,” he said.

The draw leaves Highlanders still searching for consistency at home, while Ngezi Platinum’s unbeaten run keeps them firmly in the title.
