Nketa schools go digital with Starlink

Four schools in Bulawayo’s Nketa constituency have received Starlink internet kits in a move aimed at expanding digital learning and improving internet connectivity in schools.

The kits, donated on behalf of President Emmerson Mnangagwa by the Deputy Minister of Local Government and Public Works, Albert Tawanda Mavhunga, were handed over to Nketa High School, Emganwini High School, Manondwane Primary School and Senzangakhona Primary School, yesterday.

Speaking at the handover event, Deputy Minister Mavhunga said the initiative reflected Government’s commitment to bridging the digital divide and ensuring learners across the country gain access to modern information and communication technologies.

“Today, we had the honour of handing over and donating four Starlink kits on behalf of His Excellency President Emmerson Mnangagwa to four schools in Nketa constituency to help improve access to internet connectivity and ICT education,” he said.

He noted that the donation would enhance access to online learning platforms, research materials and digital educational tools, particularly as Zimbabwe intensifies efforts to build a digital economy under Vision 2030.

“These donations are part of Government’s broader drive towards a digital economy where no child and no community is left behind in accessing modern technology and digital learning opportunities,” he said.

Deputy Minister Mavhunga said internet connectivity had become a critical component in education, innovation and economic development, adding that the Second Republic remained committed to modernising schools and improving digital infrastructure nationwide.

“Access to reliable internet is no longer a luxury but a necessity in today’s world. Learners and teachers must be equipped with the tools and connectivity needed to compete in the modern global environment.

I commend President Mnangagwa for prioritising ICT development and digital inclusion in schools. The intervention would help improve the quality of education in underserved communities,” Mavhunga added.

Government has prioritised digital transformation under Vision 2030, with schools increasingly being equipped with ICT infrastructure to improve access to technology-based education.

Starlink satellite internet services are being adopted in several institutions to improve connectivity, particularly in areas with limited conventional internet coverage.
