Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, Professor Amon Murwira, said the courtesy call by His Majesty King Misuzulu kaZwelithini and a delegation of South African traditional leaders on President Emmerson Mnangagwa reflects Zimbabwe’s unwavering commitment to Pan-Africanism, African unity and the welfare of its citizens both at home and abroad.
Speaking during the Post-Cabinet Media Briefing, yesterday, Prof. Murwira said the high-level engagement at State House was consistent with Zimbabwe’s foreign policy.
“The meeting between His Majesty King Misuzulu kaZwelithini, traditional leaders from South Africa and His Excellency President Dr. Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa is a reflection of Zimbabwe’s enduring commitment to Pan-Africanism and African unity,” said Prof. Murwira.
He said Zimbabwe’s foreign policy is guided by the country’s Constitution, which places significant emphasis on fostering cordial relations with neighbouring states and strengthening continental cooperation.
“Our foreign policy is firmly anchored in the Constitution of Zimbabwe, which advocates for African unity, solidarity and good neighbourliness. These are not merely aspirations but principles that guide how Zimbabwe engages with its neighbours and the international community,” he said.
Prof. Murwira noted that the engagement underscored the historical and cultural ties shared by Zimbabwe and South Africa, adding that African nations must continue working together to address challenges affecting their people.
He said the Government remains committed to protecting the interests and welfare of Zimbabweans living and working abroad, particularly those in South Africa, where a significant number of Zimbabwean nationals reside.
“We remain fully committed to safeguarding the welfare of Zimbabwean citizens abroad. Our engagement with our South African counterparts, including traditional leadership structures, is part of our broader responsibility to ensure that our people are treated with dignity and that their concerns are addressed through dialogue and cooperation,” he said.
Prof. Murwira described the State House meeting as a practical demonstration of leadership and the values of Ubuntu, which continue to underpin Zimbabwe’s diplomatic engagements across the continent.
“This engagement is leadership in action. It demonstrates Zimbabwe’s commitment to African brotherhood and Ubuntu, which teaches us that our humanity is interconnected. As Africans, we have a shared responsibility to support one another and to strengthen the bonds that unite our peoples,” he said.
Furthermore, he reiterated that Zimbabwe will continue pursuing policies that promote peaceful coexistence, regional integration and mutually beneficial relations with neighbouring countries in line with its constitutional and diplomatic obligations.
