Shuntai Cement Plant is set to commence operations in September 2026 following a US$200 million investment that is expected to significantly boost Zimbabwe’s cement production capacity.
In a statement, yesterday, Shuntai Cement Plant said, preparations are on course for the commissioning of the facility in September this year, marking a major milestone for Zimbabwe’s manufacturing and construction sectors.
“Shuntai Cement Plant will commence operations in September 2026 following a total investment of US$200 million. The cement plant itself represents an investment of US$120 million and will have a production capacity of 6,000 tonnes per day,” read the statement.
The company added that the integrated energy projects demonstrate its commitment to sustainable industrial development and long-term investment in Zimbabwe’s economy.
“Development of a 50MW solar power plant is underway, while plans are in place for a 50MW thermal power plant to support operations and contribute towards energy security,” the statement said.
Shuntai Cement Plant said the project is expected to create at least 400 jobs during its initial phase of operations, providing employment opportunities for Zimbabweans and contributing to economic growth through downstream industries linked to cement production.
“The plant will employ 400 people at the commencement of operations, with further opportunities expected to arise through supporting industries and services associated with the project,” the company said.
Moreover, the commencement of operations is expected to strengthen local cement supply at a time when demand for construction materials continues to grow, driven by infrastructure development projects across the country. Increased local production is also anticipated to improve product availability and reduce reliance on imports.
