Zimbabwe’s Chevrons return to action today with a must-win T20I against Namibia in Windhoek, looking to bounce back from a disappointing opening defeat to South Africa.
The two sides meet at the Namibia Cricket Ground today, Monday 31 August, in the third match of the Namibia T20I Tri-Series. The match is scheduled to start at 2pm Zimbabwe time (12pm GMT).
Zimbabwe go into the encounter under pressure after suffering a seven-wicket defeat to South Africa in their opening match. The Chevrons were restricted to 114/8 before the Proteas chased down the target comfortably.
Namibia, meanwhile, are riding high after producing the tournament’s first major upset — an impressive 18-run victory over South Africa. Led by experienced campaigners including Gerhard Erasmus, the hosts will be eager to maintain their winning momentum on home soil.
Raza’s men need a response
Zimbabwe captain Sikandar Raza and his teammates will know that another defeat would leave their route to the tri-series final increasingly difficult.
The Chevrons will need far greater firepower with the bat after struggling against South Africa, while their bowlers must find a way to contain a Namibia side that has already shown it can trouble top opposition.
The match also carries added significance as all three teams — Zimbabwe, Namibia and South Africa — are co-hosts of the 2027 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup, making this series an important early test ahead of next year’s global tournament.
With Namibia confident and Zimbabwe desperate for redemption, the stage is set for a fierce Southern African battle in Windhoek.
