Zimbabwe Dominate Oman to Open World Cup Campaign With Convincing Win

Zimbabwe delivered a commanding performance in their ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 Group B match against Oman on Monday, securing a comprehensive eight-wicket victory at the Sinhalese Sports Club in Colombo. With this win, Zimbabwe put early pressure on their group rivals and marked a strong start to their tournament campaign.

Oman, batting first after losing the toss, were never able to establish momentum. The Zimbabwe bowling attack ran through the Omani lineup, restricting the associate side to a modest 103 all out. Fast bowlers Blessing Muzarabani and Richard Ngarava were the architects of the collapse, finishing with outstanding figures of 3/16 and 3/17 respectively, while Brad Evans also chipped in with 3/18. Skipper Sikandar Raza added a key wicket as Oman struggled against disciplined and penetrative bowling.

Chasing a low total, Zimbabwe’s batsmen approached the target with intent. Brian Bennett led the charge with a composed innings, while Brendan Taylor and company saw their side home comfortably with plenty of overs to spare. Zimbabwe crossed the line with 6.3 overs remaining, underscoring their control of the contest from ball one.

The victory holds even more significance given recent form: Zimbabwe had only managed a single win in their last seven men’s T20 Internationals heading into the tournament and had lost to Oman in a warm-up game earlier in Colombo. Overcoming that setback to produce a strong World Cup performance will boost confidence among the Chevrons’ camp.

Zimbabwe now sit proudly in the Group B standings as they look ahead to their next challenge, aiming to build momentum in a competitive pool that includes seasoned T20 sides. Oman, meanwhile, will return to regroup after a tough outing with bat and ball.
