Young Lady Chevrons roar, stumble, then explode in Lagos thriller

LAGOS — The Zimbabwe Women Under-19 cricket team have delivered a rollercoaster campaign at the Nigeria Invitational Women’s T20I Tournament 2026 — a story of early heartbreak, growing belief, and one unforgettable explosion of dominance.

It all began under pressure against the hosts, Nigeria Women. Zimbabwe’s young side faltered with the bat, bundled out for just 80. Nigeria made light work of the chase, cruising home with eight wickets in hand. A harsh introduction to senior-level competition — and a wake-up call.

Things didn’t get easier.

Facing Rwanda Women, Zimbabwe again struggled to find rhythm. Rwanda piled on 143, and the chase never got going. Another collapse, another heavy defeat — and suddenly the Young Lady Chevrons were staring down a crisis of confidence.

But then, a flicker of fight.

Against fellow youth rivals South Africa Women Under-19 cricket team, Zimbabwe showed grit and growth. Chasing 146, they battled to 117 — still short, but no longer outclassed. This was different: sharper intent, stronger resistance, and a glimpse of what this team could become.

And then came the storm.

In a breathtaking turnaround, Zimbabwe unleashed chaos on Ghana Women. The batters fired on all cylinders, piling up a staggering 225/2 — one of the standout totals of the tournament. Boundaries flowed, confidence surged, and the dugout came alive.

If that wasn’t enough, the bowlers finished the job in ruthless fashion, skittling Ghana for just 45.

A 180-run victory. Statement made.

From back-to-back collapses to one of the most dominant wins in the competition, Zimbabwe’s campaign has captured the unpredictable beauty of youth cricket — raw, emotional, and bursting with potential.

They may not yet be title favourites, but one thing is clear: this young Zimbabwe side is learning fast, hitting hard, and — on their day — absolutely unstoppable.
