Zim steps up efforts to end violence against children

Zimbabwe has launched a two-day national preparatory session aimed at consolidating the country’s priorities and reviewing progress in ending violence against children, ahead of the Second Global Ministerial Conference scheduled for Manila in 2026.

Officially opening the session, recently, Acting Chief Director for Social Development and Labour Administration in the Ministry of Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare, Tawanda Zimhunga, described ending violence against children as both a national priority and a fundamental moral responsibility.

“We must ensure that children are safe in every environment in their homes, schools, communities, institutions, and increasingly, in online spaces,” he stated.

He noted that Zimbabwe’s efforts are fully aligned with the National Development Strategy 2 (NDS2) and the newly launched National Action Plan for Children IV (2026–2030).

“The session will assess progress on the country’s 2024 EVAC Pledge ahead of the global gathering, which follows the inaugural ministerial conference held in Bogotá, Colombia,” he said.

The outcome of this national consultative process will shape Zimbabwe’s position and commitments at the upcoming global conference, reinforcing the nation’s dedication to safeguarding children from all forms of violence.
