Zanu PF moves to align party constitution with CAA3

Zanu PF proposed endorsing President Emmerson Mnangagwa as the party’s sole candidate for the 8th National People’s Congress, alongside a review of its constitution to align it with Constitutional Amendment No. 3 (CAA3).

The proposals, outlined by Zanu PF Secretary for Legal Affairs, Ziyambi Ziyambi, seek to ensure that the party’s internal governing framework remains consistent with the relevant constitutional provisions and applicable legal requirements.

“That His Excellency the President and First Secretary of Zanu PF be endorsed as the Party’s sole candidate for the 8th National People’s Congress, subject to the Party’s Constitution and applicable procedures,” he said.

Ziyambi also proposed that the party’s Legal Department undertake a review of the Zanu PF Constitution to ensure that it reflects the relevant provisions of CAA3.

“That the Party’s Legal Department review and align the ZANU-PF Constitution with the relevant provisions of Constitutional Amendment No. 3 (CAA3), including provisions relating to the Central Committee and other Party structures, subject to applicable constitutional and legal requirements,” Ziyambi said.

The proposed review is intended to ensure consistency between the party’s internal rules and the relevant provisions of the constitutional amendment, particularly those affecting its structures and governance arrangements.

The two proposals address both the party’s leadership position ahead of the 8th National People’s Congress and the legal framework governing its internal operations.
