Zanu PF National Chairperson, Cde Oppah Muchinguri-Kashiri reiterated that the party’s resolutions adopted at the 23rd National People’s Conference in Chinhoyi, yesterday, reflected the wishes of grassroots members, as provincial chairpersons took turns to explain how consultations conducted through party structures had informed the decisions.
The provincial leaders said the resolutions were informed by consultations at cell, branch, district and provincial levels, with members expressing support for President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s continued leadership in recognition of developments achieved under the Second Republic.
Mashonaland West provincial chairperson, Cde Mary Mliswa-Chikoka, said her province had followed the party’s constitutional procedures, with meetings held from grassroots structures to provincial level before the resolutions were adopted.
Mashonaland Central provincial chairperson, Cde Kazembe Kazembe, said consultations in his province had highlighted economic stabilisation, improved access to passports and greater order within the party as some of the gains under the Second Republic.
Harare provincial chairperson, Cde Godwills Masimirembwa, said Zimbabwe had made significant strides in international relations under President Mnangagwa, moving from isolation towards broader diplomatic engagement.
“Before 2017, we were crying about sanctions as a nation, without friends and isolated. Now we have friends all over and more are coming on board,” he said.
Masvingo provincial chairperson, Senator Robson Mavenyengwa, said consultations had started at cell and branch levels before progressing to district and provincial inter-district meetings, ensuring that members’ views were considered in formulating the resolutions.
Matabeleland South provincial chairperson, Cde Mangaliso Ndlovu, said grassroots members had been unequivocal in their desire for President Mnangagwa to continue leading the party.
Mashonaland East provincial chairperson, Cde Daniel Garwe, cited developments in water provision in Chinhoyi as evidence of progress under the Second Republic. He said about 3 000 households had reportedly regained access to water after years of challenges.
The party’s Women and Youth Leagues also prioritised the resolutions, underscoring the role of various party structures in shaping the outcomes of the conference.
The resolutions place continued leadership, party organisational matters and socio-economic development at the centre of Zanu PF’s political programme, with the Government expected to implement decisions aimed at advancing livelihoods.
Meanwhile, delegates also adopted the implementation report on resolutions from the 22nd National People’s Conference held in Manicaland, alongside the resolutions of the 23rd conference and an addendum presented during the proceedings.
