‘Laissez-faire attitude has no place in Government’

President Emmerson Mnangagwa has issued a stern directive requiring all government ministers to appear before the Zanu PF Politburo to deliver detailed reports on their implementation of policies designed to uplift ordinary citizens, emphasising that “real transformational and evident impacts must be seen on the ground.”

Addressing the 387th  session of the Politburo in Harare, the President, who is also the Party’s First Secretary, declared that the era of laxity and unfulfilled promises was over.

He stated that Government, which derives its mandate from the people through Zanu PF, must be held to the highest standard of accountability.

“We must never accept laxity, lethargy, and a laissez-faire attitude to creep into the manner the party governs itself,” President Mnangagwa asserted.

He emphasised that the primary duty of every minister and public official is to cement the strategic trust of the people through the timely implementation of policies and effective, just governance.

The President was unequivocal in his demand for visible results, rejecting any form of window-dressing.

“As the Party, we want to see the projects of the generality of the people of Zimbabwe succeeding, village by village, ward by ward, district by district, and province by province. Real transformational and evident impacts must be seen on the ground,” he said.

He issued a sharp warning against corruption and any behaviour that alienates the leadership from the citizens, stating that such excesses “could never be condoned.”

He insisted that “integrity, discipline, unity, concern for the people, and clean governance must be synonymous with Zanu PF,” and that the Party constitution empowers them to “boldly and decisively deal with those who put the name of the party into disrepute.”

Furthermore, President Mnangagwa challenged all Party structures to document and share success stories from various empowerment schemes, particularly those led by women and youth, to foster nationwide learning and replication.

He framed this rigorous new standard of accountability as non-negotiable for achieving Vision 2030, concluding with a resolute, “United at heart, in mind and vision with our people, Vision 2030 is achievable. There is no going back.”
