ZimTrade hosts Chinese buyers

The national trade development and promotion agency, ZimTrade, hosted a delegation of buyers from China this week in a high-level market engagement programme ahead of the Zimbabwe–China Business Forum set for Mutare today.

In a statement, yesterday, ZimTrade said, “the programme is designed to strengthen direct trade linkages between Zimbabwean exporters and Chinese buyers through on-the-ground exposure to production systems, export capacity, and quality standards in key agricultural value chains,”

The agency said the visit is part of a broader export promotion strategy aimed at positioning Zimbabwe as a competitive supplier of premium agricultural products to the Chinese market.

“We are hosting a delegation of buyers from China this week ahead of the Zimbabwe-China Business Forum in Mutare tomorrow,” it said.

It added that the delegation has already begun field assessments of local agricultural operations.

“They visited macadamia and chilli farms around Harare and will be taking a tour of Manicaland,” ZimTrade stated.

ZimTrade further emphasised that the engagements are focused on long-term trade outcomes rather than short-term transactions.

“We’re showcasing Zimbabwe premium exports and building the foundation for long-term trade partnerships,” it added.n

The visiting buyers are expected to engage directly with farmers, exporters, and agribusiness stakeholders to better understand Zimbabwe’s production capacity, post-harvest handling systems, and export readiness frameworks, particularly in high-value horticultural crops such as macadamia nuts and chilli, which have seen growing demand in Asian markets.

ZimTrade has continued to prioritise export diversification and market expansion initiatives under its broader mandate of “Energizing Exports,” with China remaining a key strategic market in Zimbabwe’s efforts to grow foreign currency earnings and strengthen international trade partnerships.
