Zimbabwe and the State of Palestine have reaffirmed their longstanding diplomatic relations following a high-level meeting between senior officials in Harare, yesterday.
In a statement the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade confirmed that the Secretary for Foreign Affairs and International Trade, Ambassador Albert Chimbindi, received a courtesy call from the Palestinian Ambassador to Zimbabwe, H.E. Tamer Almassri.
“The engagement underscored the longstanding solidarity and deep-rooted diplomatic relations between Zimbabwe and the State of Palestine,” the Ministry said.
During the discussions, the two diplomats reaffirmed the importance of mutual support on international platforms and the need to deepen cooperation in areas of shared interest.
The Ministry indicated that Zimbabwe remains steadfast in its foreign policy principles, which include solidarity with nations pursuing self-determination and sovereignty.
“The courtesy call provided an opportunity to reflect on the historical bonds that have defined relations between Zimbabwe and Palestine, while also exploring avenues for enhancing cooperation going forward,” the Ministry said.
The Ministry highlighted that such engagements are critical in sustaining diplomatic momentum and fostering mutual understanding between nations.
“The meeting demonstrates the importance both countries attach to their bilateral relations and their commitment to advancing shared diplomatic objectives,” the Ministry added.
Zimbabwe has historically maintained strong political and diplomatic support for the Palestinian cause, advocating for peace and the recognition of Palestinian statehood. The relationship between the two countries is rooted in shared values of independence, sovereignty and resistance against oppression, which continue to shape their cooperation in international forums.
