The Ministry of Industry and Commerce has announced that construction of the Komo Pvt Ltd pine resin processing plant in Manicaland is now 90 percent complete.
In a statement, yesterday, the Ministry said the project represents a significant investment in Zimbabwe’s manufacturing sector and is set to create thousands of jobs while strengthening downstream industries.
“Komo Pvt Ltd pine resin processing plant is under construction and is 90 percent complete.
The investment includes a US$5 million plant located in Manicaland. Construction began in October 2025 and commissioning is set for this year,” the Ministry said.
The plant is expected to play a pivotal role in beneficiation by processing raw pine resin into industrial inputs used across multiple sectors, reducing reliance on imports and boosting local production capacity.
“Komo will employ over 3000 locals. The project will contribute significantly to employment creation and livelihoods in Manicaland Province.
The Ministry highlighted that processed resin has wide industrial applications, making the plant a strategic addition to Zimbabwe’s value chains.
“Processed resin is used in the manufacture of products like tyre, ink, paint, adhesive, glue, electronics, medical and food supplies,” the Ministry said.
The Ministry noted that upon completion, the facility will position Zimbabwe among a select group of countries on the continent with such specialised processing capacity.
“Upon completion, Komo becomes the fifth resin processing plant in Africa,” the statement said.
Zimbabwe has prioritised industrial development through value addition and beneficiation as part of its economic transformation strategy.
The establishment of processing plants is seen as key to unlocking value from natural resources and supporting sustainable economic growth.
