In a statement, yesterday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade the significance of relations between Zimbabwe and South Africa.
“Professor Murwira’s presence in Pretoria highlights the importance of relations between Zimbabwe, South Africa, and the world at large, as well as the role of regional cooperation in advancing shared political and economic goals,” the statement read.
Central to the visit, according to the Ministry, is Zimbabwe’s bid for a non-permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council.
“Through engagements in South Africa with diplomatic stakeholders, Zimbabwe is seeking broader international backing within the Southern African Development Community (SADC), the African Union, and the global community at large,” the Ministry said.
It further emphasised that the campaign reflects Zimbabwe’s growing ambition to shape global discourse.
“The campaign reflects Zimbabwe’s intention to play a more active role in global governance, particularly on issues affecting the world.
“This would provide the country with a platform to influence decisions on international peace, security, and development,” the statement said.
Zimbabwe has remained active in regional and international blocs such as SADC and the African Union, and is now seeking to expand its influence through representation in key global institutions like the United Nations Security Council.
