ZIFA appoint Kaitano Tembo as warriors interim coach

The Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) has appointed former national team defensive stalwart Kaitano Tembo as interim Warriors head coach following the sudden resignation of Romanian tactician Marian Marinica.

In a statement released yesterday, ZIFA informed confirmed that “Kaitano Tembo has been appointed Interim Head Coach and will lead the team for the upcoming Unity Cup assignment in the United Kingdom.” He will be assisted by current Caps United coach Takesure Chiragwi. The 55-year-old Tembo, a respected figure in Zimbabwean football, brings significant experience to the role. As a former defender who captained the Warriors and featured at the 2004 Africa Cup of Nations, he enjoyed a solid coaching career in South Africa, including spells as head coach of SuperSport United, Sekhukhune United, and Richards Bay.
The interim role gives Tembo an immediate opportunity to impress, as the Warriors are scheduled to participate in a four-nation tournament dubbed the Unity Cup 2026 in the United Kingdom in May. ZIFA insiders have hinted that a strong showing at the Unity Cup could strengthen Tembo’s chances of landing the job on a permanent basis. Tembo’s familiarity with the local game and his deep connections within the Zimbabwean football fraternity are expected to bring some stability to the squad.
The Football Association has not yet indicated when a permanent coach will be appointed.
