The ZANU PF Politburo is convening today at the party’s headquarters in Harare, where the party’s First Secretary and President, Emmerson Mnangagwa is expected to deliver his keynote address.
As is tradition, today’s deliberations are anticipated to focus on the state of the party and the economy, with updates expected on ongoing programmes and organisational priorities.
The previous Politburo meeting — the 391st Ordinary Session — was held on March 25, 2026. During that session, discussions centred on the Constitutional Amendment Number 3 Bill (CAB 3) as the Politburo reviewed the proposed reforms ahead of nationwide public hearings which commenced on March 30, 2026.
Following the consultations, the Constitutional Amendment (No. 3) Bill is now set for parliamentary scrutiny, marking a key milestone in efforts to modernise the country’s governance framework in line with national developmental goals.
Parliament is currently receiving written submissions after the conclusion of oral hearings. Relevant committees are now compiling input gathered from the public and preparing a consolidated report. The report will be tabled in Parliament after the Second Reading speech by the Minister of Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs.
The Second Reading will take place after the mandatory 90-day period lapses on May 18.
At the March meeting, President Mnangagwa commended ongoing party programmes aimed at improving efficiency and modernising operations. He also reiterated the importance of diligently implementing party resolutions and upholding the principle of party supremacy in relation to Government functions.
Earlier, the 390th Ordinary Session held on February 25, 2026 — the first Politburo sitting of the year — followed a two-day strategic seminar in Harare that began on February 9, 2026. During that session, President Mnangagwa emphasised the need to implement party resolutions beyond electoral cycles, underscoring anti-corruption, accountability and clean governance as core expectations.
