Kwekwe-based Premiership side HardRock have won the race for Highlanders attacking midfielder Mongameli Tshuma, securing the services of one of Zimbabwe’s most sought-after talents ahead of their ambitious 2027 campaign.
Tshuma, who had been heavily linked with a move to CAPS United, is now set to join HardRock after an agreement between the two clubs was reportedly reached, bringing an end to weeks of speculation surrounding the talented player.
The Highlanders star has been one of the standout performers in the domestic league this season, producing impressive displays in the famous black and white colours and attracting interest from some of the country’s biggest clubs.
CAPS United had emerged as early favourites for his signature, with negotiations reportedly reaching an advanced stage before the recent passing of three Highlanders executive members disrupted proceedings.
However, HardRock moved quickly to secure the player as part of their long-term strategy to build a competitive squad capable of challenging for honours.
A source close to the negotiations said the Kwekwe club had been clear about their intentions and moved decisively to complete the deal.
“The club knew what they wanted and they have their player. It was never about what the other clubs were doing. The idea is to assemble a formidable side next season and Monga will be an important player in those plans,” said the source.
Before HardRock’s intervention, CAPS United had tabled an offer, while Highlanders had also set their valuation for the player. Reports indicated that Bosso were prepared to revise their initial asking price of more than US$250 000 for a deal that would have seen Tshuma remain on loan at Highlanders for the remainder of the season, with his wages covered by the Green Machine.
It remains unclear whether CAPS United made a final attempt to secure the player following their recent league encounter against Highlanders, where Tshuma impressed despite Bosso suffering defeat.
HardRock’s capture of Tshuma further underlines the club’s growing ambition in the Premier Soccer League. The newcomers have already made a statement of intent during their debut season, attracting several high-profile players, including Warriors stars Gerald Takwara and Prince Dube during the mid-season transfer window.
The Kwekwe side’s impressive campaign has also strengthened belief that they could emerge as serious contenders for the league title. HardRock are currently just two points behind log leaders Scottland, who have a game in hand, setting up what could become one of the most competitive title races in recent seasons.
With Tshuma now added to an already ambitious squad, HardRock appear determined to establish themselves among Zimbabwe’s elite football clubs.
