Zimbabwe has reaffirmed its commitment to accelerating digital transformation through strengthened international cooperation following high-level engagements between the Ministry of ICT, Postal and Courier Services and the French Government.
ICT, Postal and Courier Services Minister, Tatenda Mavetera, yesterday met French Ambassador to Zimbabwe, Paul-Bertrand Barets, and the Deputy Head of Mission to discuss strategic collaboration in the information and communication technology sector.
Speaking after the meeting, Minister Mavetera said Zimbabwe is determined to leverage international partnerships to modernise the country’s digital ecosystem and create opportunities for innovation-driven growth.
“Zimbabwe is committed to building a future-ready digital economy that leaves no one and no community behind. Our engagement with France reflects the importance of international cooperation in accelerating innovation, empowering startups, and expanding access to technology,” she said.
The discussions also highlighted ongoing support from the French Government towards Zimbabwe’s digital initiatives, particularly programmes aimed at empowering local ICT startups and providing technological resources to communities in Epworth.
Ambassador Barets reaffirmed France’s interest in supporting Zimbabwe’s digital transformation agenda through collaborative initiatives that promote skills development, innovation, and technological advancement.
“France values its partnership with Zimbabwe and recognises the transformative role of technology in sustainable development. We are encouraged by Zimbabwe’s vision for digital inclusion and innovation,” said Ambassador Barets.
As part of the engagement, Minister Mavetera presented copies of Zimbabwe’s AI Readiness Assessment Methodology (AI RAM) Report and the National Artificial Intelligence Strategy to the French delegation, underscoring the Government’s focus on harnessing artificial intelligence for national development.
