Hardrock FC reclaimed top spot in the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League with an emphatic 3-0 victory over Simba Bhora at Chahwanda Stadium on Sunday.
A lively atmosphere greeted fans at Chahwanda Stadium as Hardrock returned to their home ground, with a strong security presence helping to ensure a smooth match-day experience.
The league newcomers delivered a dominant performance, led by Warriors forward Washington Navaya, who struck twice in the opening half to put the hosts firmly in control.
Samuel Makawa then completed the rout in the 70th minute, finding the back of the net to cap an impressive afternoon for Hardrock.
Despite suffering defeat, Simba Bhora coach Mandla Mpofu remained optimistic about his team’s prospects.
“We are disappointed with the result, but we will soldier on. The performance was quite promising, though there were mistakes,” said Mpofu.
Hardrock coach Kelvin Kaindu praised his players for responding positively after a difficult spell.
“It is an important result. We had a lot of pressure after failing to win our last two matches. We are coming from the lower league, so scoring three goals and keeping a clean sheet means a lot to us,” said Kaindu.
The victory lifts Hardrock FC to the top of the league standings on superior goal difference, further intensifying what is shaping up to be a fiercely contested title race.
Elsewhere, CAPS United edged ZPC Kariba 3-2, while Manica Diamonds and Dynamos played out an entertaining 2-2 draw at Sakubva Stadium. FC Platinum also collected maximum points with a narrow 1-0 victory over Triangle at Gibbo Stadium.
