ZIFA now set to receive US$2.5m annually from FIFA

The Zimbabwe Football Association ZIFA is poised to benefit from increased financial support after FIFA announced a significant rise in funding for member associations under its FIFA Forward 4.0 programme.

The announcement was made during the FIFA Executive Football Summit held in Miami, United States, where football leaders from across the globe gathered to discuss the future growth and development of the game.

According to ZIFA, one of the key issues deliberated at the summit was the FIFA Forward 4.0 initiative, which will see FIFA member associations receive annual funding of US$2.5 million as part of a renewed commitment to football development worldwide.

In a statement, ZIFA said the enhanced funding package is designed to strengthen football structures and create more opportunities for growth at all levels of the game.

“One of the major topics on the agenda was the FIFA Forward 4.0 programme, under which member associations are set to receive increased funding of US$2.5 million annually. The enhanced investment is aimed at accelerating football development, infrastructure improvement, governance enhancement and capacity building across FIFA’s 211 member associations,” said ZIFA.

For Zimbabwe, the increased allocation represents a major opportunity to accelerate efforts to rebuild and modernise the local football landscape. The additional resources are expected to support the development of football infrastructure, strengthen grassroots programmes, improve governance systems and enhance technical and administrative capacity within the sport.

The funding is also likely to play a crucial role in nurturing young talent, improving coaching standards and creating stronger pathways for player development, areas that have been identified as critical to the long-term growth of Zimbabwean football.

The FIFA Forward programme has become one of the world governing body’s flagship development initiatives, providing financial assistance to member associations to improve football administration and infrastructure while promoting sustainable growth.

Under the new FIFA Forward 4.0 cycle, which will run from 2027 to 2031, associations will have greater resources at their disposal to implement strategic projects aimed at transforming the game both on and off the field.
