A 38-year-old man from Muedzengwa village, under Chief Marange in Manicaland died after allegedly consuming an unverified herbal concoction believed to enhance sexual performance.
Christopher Mutindori reportedly took the substance on 4 July after he and his friend, Pardon Mutema (35), approached a self-proclaimed herbalist, Robert Maphosa (45), seeking a sexual enhancement mixture.
Police said shortly after consuming the concoction, Mutindori started complaining of feeling weak before collapsing and dying.
ZRP Marange officers attended the scene and the body was taken to Victoria Chitepo Provincial Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
Acting Manicaland provincial police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Wiseman Chinyoka confirmed the incident, warning members of the public against using unverified herbal remedies.
“We urge members of the public not to consume concoctions whose contents and safety are unknown. People should only use medicines and herbal products that have been properly verified, as taking untested substances can have fatal consequences,” said Assistant Inspector Chinyoka.
Assistant Inspector Chinyoka said people should seek medical advice and use approved products to avoid putting their lives at risk.
Police investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident are continuing.
