Over 1,300 Malaria Cases Reported Nationwide, One Death

More than 1,300 malaria cases and one death have been reported across Zimbabwe, according to the Ministry of Health and Child Care’s Weekly Disease Surveillance Report for the week ending 14 September 2025.

The Ministry recorded a total of 1,386 malaria cases, with the sole death occurring at Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals in Harare Metropolitan Province.

Of the reported cases, 210 (15.2%) were children under five. Mashonaland Central (588 cases) and Mashonaland East (421 cases) recorded the highest numbers.

Cumulatively, Zimbabwe has reported 139,925 malaria cases and 376 deaths to date.

The Ministry urged the public to take precautions, including the use of insecticide-treated mosquito nets, to help reduce malaria transmission. It said:

“To reduce malaria, people can use insecticide-treated mosquito nets. Water sources, such as blocked drains and uncovered containers, should be removed, and tall grass should be cut, as these are common mosquito breeding sites.

“When travelling to or residing in high-risk areas, preventive medication may be taken under the guidance of a healthcare professional.

“If someone shows malaria symptoms (fever often with chills and sweating, headache, body aches, fatigue, nausea, vomiting, or diarrhoea), it is important to get tested early.”
