Zim, Malawi deepen bilateral corporation

Zimbabwe and Malawi have reaffirmed their commitment to deepening bilateral cooperation following the farewell meeting between Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, Professor Amon Murwira, and the outgoing Ambassador of the Republic of Malawi to Zimbabwe, Peter Andrew Lapken Namathanga, recently.

During the farewell courtesy call, Professor Murwira commended the longstanding and cordial relations between the two neighbouring countries.

“Zimbabwe and Malawi enjoy enduring and excellent relations firmly built on a shared history, common culture, and deep-rooted people-to-people and family ties that have continued to flourish over the years,” Prof Murwira said.

Professor Murwira also expressed appreciation to the Government of Malawi for its participation at this year’s Zimbabwe International Trade Fair (ZITF), describing the country’s presence at the premier trade exhibition as evidence of the robust bilateral relationship.

“The active participation of Malawi at this year’s Zimbabwe International Trade Fair is a clear testament to the vibrant relations that continue to exist between our two countries. These relations are further demonstrated through frequent high-level exchange visits at both Government and ruling party levels,” he said.

The minister reaffirmed Zimbabwe’s commitment to regional solidarity and humanitarian cooperation, saying the Government remains ready to support neighbouring countries whenever assistance is required.

“Zimbabwe remains unwavering in its solidarity with sister nations and stands ready to offer assistance in order to uphold the dignity and safety of affected regional populations whenever the need arises,” Prof Murwira said.

Ambassador Namathanga expressed gratitude to the Government and people of Zimbabwe.

“I would like to thank the Government of Zimbabwe and its people for the hospitality extended to me throughout my diplomatic assignment and the assistance rendered during the repatriation of Malawian nationals who were affected by anti-migrant protests in South Africa,” he said.

Meanwhile, the meeting also reviewed progress made under the Zimbabwe-Malawi Joint Permanent Commission on Cooperation (JPCC), with both parties acknowledging the successful Mid-Term Review of the 11th Session of the commission recently held in Harare.
