The Mazowe Rural District Council (RDC) has moved to repossess at least 250 residential and commercial stands in Glendale Township after beneficiaries failed to meet the conditions of their allocations, citing non-payment and failure to develop the properties within the prescribed timeframes.
In a public notice by the Acting Chief Executive Officer Mr Magasi, the council said the affected stands are located in Sussex Medium Density Residential, Sussex Commercial, Westville Residential, Westville Commercial and Mazowe.
“The affected stand holders have been given 30 days from the date of publication of this notice to lodge objections with the council,” he said.
Magasi said the beneficiaries had breached the terms of their offer letters, which require allottees to settle outstanding payments and develop their properties within stipulated periods.
The council warned that beneficiaries who fail to regularise their position or submit objections within the prescribed period will automatically forfeit their allocations, with the stands reverting to the local authority without further notice.
“The repossessed properties would subsequently be available for reallocation in line with the council’s land administration policies,” it added.
The repossession exercise forms part of the council’s efforts to promote orderly development, improve land utilisation and discourage speculative holding of undeveloped land.
In recent years, local authorities across Zimbabwe have intensified enforcement of development conditions as they seek to ensure serviced land is developed and allocated to beneficiaries who are able to meet their contractual obligations.
