Zim benchmarks Malaysia’s media industry

A delegation led by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services, Nick Mangwana, is on a working visit to Malaysia to study the Southeast Asian nation’s media landscape.

In a statement, yesterday, Mangwana said the visit seeks to benchmark Zimbabwe’s media industry against Malaysia’s and facilitate the conclusion of the proposed broadcasting agreement between the two nations.

“Our working visit to Malaysia seeks to benchmark Zimbabwe’s media industry against Malaysia’s and expedite the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding in the Field of Broadcasting between the two countries,” Mangwana said.

Mangwana said Zimbabwe is keen to learn from Malaysia’s successful transition to digital broadcasting and its adoption of modern multimedia technologies that have transformed public service broadcasting.

“Zimbabwe stands to benefit immensely from Malaysia’s experience in digital migration, public broadcasting and multimedia regulation as we continue implementing initiatives that strengthen our media sector and improve service delivery to citizens,” he said.

Mangwana said the envisaged MoU would create opportunities for institutional partnerships, skills transfer, content exchange and capacity building between Zimbabwe and Malaysia’s broadcasting institutions.

“The proposed Memorandum of Understanding will provide an important framework for collaboration in broadcasting and create opportunities for knowledge sharing, technology transfer and the adoption of emerging media innovations that support the growth of Zimbabwe’s broadcasting industry,” he said.

The benchmarking mission comes as Zimbabwe continues to pursue media sector reforms and digital transformation initiatives aimed at positioning the country’s broadcasting industry to meet evolving global standards while expanding access to quality information services.
