South African President Cyril Ramaphosa has extended his condolences to the Government and people of Zimbabwe following the tragic loss of life in the RIDA passenger ferry accident on Lake Kariba.
In a statement, President Ramaphosa expressed solidarity with Zimbabwe as the country mourns the victims of the tragedy.
“As South Africans we stand in solidarity today with the nation of Zimbabwe as we mourn this extensive loss of life,” he said.
The death toll from the Lake Kariba tragedy currently stands at 44, with search and recovery operations expected to resume this morning as authorities continue efforts to locate and recover the remaining victims.
