Rehabilitation works have commenced at Masvingo Airport as Zimbabwe steps up preparations to host the 2026 Sanganai/Hlanganani World Tourism Expo in Masvingo.
In a statement yesterday, the Airport Company of Zimbabwe (ACZ) said the airport upgrade was part of broader efforts to improve aviation infrastructure and ensure Masvingo is adequately prepared to accommodate increased passenger and tourist traffic expected during the expo.
“Rehabilitation works have commenced at Masvingo Airport as Zimbabwe accelerates preparations to host the Sanganai/Hlanganani World Tourism Expo 2026 in Masvingo,” ACZ said.
The company said the rehabilitation programme would contribute towards improving the passenger experience while strengthening the airport’s ability to support the province’s tourism and economic activities.
“ The airport upgrade is part of ongoing efforts to enhance aviation infrastructure, improve the passenger experience and strengthen Masvingo’s capacity to accommodate increased tourist traffic during this prestigious international tourism showcase,” ACZ said.
ACZ said the airport works were also aligned with the country’s broader objective of developing modern aviation facilities capable of supporting tourism growth.
“The ongoing works reaffirm Zimbabwe’s commitment to developing modern, safe and efficient airport infrastructure that supports the growth of the tourism industry.
Improvements to aviation infrastructure were important in strengthening connectivity and ensuring that destinations hosting major international events were equipped to handle visitors efficiently,”the ACZ added.
The airport rehabilitation comes as Zimbabwe continues investing in transport and tourism infrastructure to support the growth of the visitor economy and improve the country’s competitiveness as a regional and international tourism destination.
The completion of the works will therefore be closely watched by tourism operators and other stakeholders as Masvingo prepares to welcome participants and visitors for Sanganai/Hlangana
