Zanu PF Mashonaland West Province has tabled 26 resolutions for consideration at the party’s Annual National People’s Conference, scheduled for Chinhoyi, in October.
The resolutions were adopted during provincial meetings, held this week, which also assessed the province’s preparedness to host the conference and the progress of membership verification as the ruling party moves towards digitising its records.
Among the key resolutions is the unequivocal endorsement of President Emmerson Mnangagwa as the party’s preferred candidate for election as First Secretary and President of Zanu PF at the next congress.
The province also resolved that the Zanu PF constitution should be reviewed and aligned, where necessary, with the Constitution of Zimbabwe, including provisions governing the tenure and electoral cycles of party structures.
Another resolution calls for the expeditious implementation of Constitution Amendment Act No. 3 in line with the Constitution, legislation and established party procedures.
Speaking during the provincial meeting in Chinhoyi, on Saturday, Politburo member, Cde Ziyambi Ziyambi said Government had already started implementing some provisions of the amendment.
He cited the submission of names of senatorial candidates to Parliament and the transfer of the voters’ roll from the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission to the Registrar-General’s Office.
“I am happy with the quality of the resolutions coming from Mashonaland West ahead of the National Annual People’s Conference. As Government, we are already implementing the Constitution Amendment Act No. 3, and a number of its provisions are already underway,” he said.
Cde Ziyambi said the party was accelerating digitisation of its operations to improve accountability and curb corruption.
He urged the province to speed up membership verification and correction of records, noting that information relating to about 272 000 members had reportedly been captured incorrectly.
“We need to speed up the membership verification exercise because we want to digitise our database and ensure that the information we have accurately reflects the actual membership of the party,” he said.
Provincial chairperson, Cde Mary Mliswa-Chikoka, thanked residents for supporting Amendment Act No. 3, while Zanu PF National Resource Mobilisation chairperson, Cde Philip Chiyangwa said contributions towards hosting the conference had exceeded the US$1 million target when cash and material donations were combined.
The meetings were also attended by a six-member Council of Elders delegation led by former Health Minister, Dr David Parirenyatwa.
