Midlands Provincial Affairs and Devolution Minister Owen Ncube commissioned eight service vehicles and ICT gadgets for Zvishavane Town Council.
Speaking during the commissioning recently, Minister Ncube said the handover demonstrated Government’s commitment to providing local authorities with the resources required to effectively respond to the needs of communities.
“The commissioning of these eight service vehicles and ICT gadgets is a clear demonstration of Government’s commitment to capacitating our local authorities,” Ncube said.
He said the new equipment would strengthen the council’s operational capacity by improving mobility, supervision and the use of digital technologies in the delivery of municipal services.
“By improving mobility, supervision and digital capacity, our councils are better positioned to deliver essential services and engage communities meaningfully,” he said.
Ncube said the provision of vehicles would enable council officials to reach different areas more efficiently, conduct supervision and monitoring of projects, and respond more effectively to service delivery requirements.
“These vehicles are not simply assets for the council; they are tools for improving the way services reach our communities,” he said.
He said improved mobility was particularly important for local authorities because effective service delivery required officials to regularly monitor operations and respond to challenges on the ground.
“Council officials must be able to move, supervise and monitor activities effectively. We expect these vehicles to translate into improved responsiveness and better service to the people of Zvishavane,” Ncube said.
The Minister also highlighted the importance of the ICT gadgets in strengthening the council’s digital capacity, saying technology had become an increasingly important component of modern public administration.
“The ICT gadgets we are handing over today are equally important because Government is committed to ensuring that our local authorities embrace digitalisation and modern systems of administration,” he said.
Ncube said councils should use technology to improve communication, record management, coordination and engagement with residents.
“We want our local authorities to be modern, efficient and responsive. Digital capacity allows councils to communicate better, manage information more effectively and engage citizens in a more meaningful way,” he said.
He urged Zvishavane Town Council to ensure that the newly acquired resources were properly maintained and used for their intended purpose.
“Resources provided by Government must be utilised responsibly and must ultimately benefit the communities they are intended to serve,” Ncube said.
The commissioning forms part of broader Government efforts to strengthen local authorities under the devolution agenda and equip them to support inclusive development.
