President Emmerson Mnangagwa has called for closer Zimbabwe-Mozambique relations after hosting Speaker of the Assembly of the Republic of Mozambique, Margarida Adamugy Talapa, and her delegation for a courtesy call at the Munhumutapa Offices yesterday.
“It was an honour to welcome the Speaker of the Assembly of the Republic of Mozambique, Her Excellency Margarida Adamugy Talapa, and her delegation for a courtesy call at the Munhumutapa Offices today,” President Mnangagwa said.
He said relations between Zimbabwe and Mozambique went beyond formal diplomacy, reflecting the sacrifices made by the two countries during their liberation struggles.
“Zimbabwe and Mozambique share an unbreakable, deep-rooted bond forged during our liberation struggles,” he said.
The President said that history continued to provide a firm basis for practical initiatives aimed at improving the lives of citizens in both countries.
“Today, we continue to build on that enduring history by strengthening our bilateral cooperation, promoting legislative alignment, and driving economic modernization for the mutual prosperity of our people,” President Mnangagwa said.
President Mnangagwa said the two countries would continue supporting peace, integration and development across Southern Africa while upholding the principles of pan-African solidarity.
“We remain committed to deep, pan-African solidarity as we work hand-in-hand to foster peace, integration, and development across the SADC region,” President Mnangagwa said.
Zimbabwe and Mozambique maintain extensive political, economic and people-to-people links. Their shared border and historical connections have supported cooperation in trade, transport, energy and other areas of mutual interest.
The meeting also reflected ongoing efforts to strengthen parliamentary diplomacy and institutional links as SADC member states pursue closer coordination on development and regional priorities.
