Zim courts fresh mining investment

Zimbabwe has stepped up efforts to attract international investment into the mining sector, the HararePost can report.

In a statement, Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Taonga Mushayavanhu, highlighted the country’s mineral wealth, exploration potential and ongoing reforms at Caledonia Mining Corporation Plc’s Capital Markets Day in New York, yesterday.

“Zimbabwe is Open for Business, and mining remains central to our National Development Strategy 2, 2026 to 2030,” Mushayavanhu said.

He said Zimbabwe’s extensive mineral endowment, coupled with significant unexplored areas, presented opportunities for investors willing to participate in exploration, extraction and downstream development.

“Zimbabwe is endowed with abundant mineral resources and significant untapped exploration potential. We continue to implement reforms that improve the investment environment and create opportunities for responsible and sustainable investment in the mining sector,” he said.

Mushayavanhu also stressed the need for mining investment to generate broader economic benefits through local value addition, skills development and partnerships with communities surrounding mining operations.

“Our objective is not simply to extract minerals, but to ensure that mining contributes meaningfully to national development through value addition, skills development and strong partnerships with communities,” he said.

He encouraged international investors to consider Zimbabwe’s mining opportunities within the context of the Government’s wider economic reforms and development priorities.

“The Government remains committed to creating an enabling environment for investors while ensuring that our mineral resources contribute to sustainable economic growth and improved livelihoods for our people,” Mushayavanhu said.

Caledonia Mining Corporation has maintained a significant presence in Zimbabwe through its Blanket Mine operations, while advancing the Bilboes and Motapa projects as part of its growth strategy.

The New York engagement provided Zimbabwe with an opportunity to present its mining investment prospects directly to international capital markets as the country seeks to leverage its mineral resources to support the objectives of NDS2 and Vision 2030.
