A 40-year-old Chitungwiza man who allegedly posed as a medical doctor has been charged with murder after a 51-year-old woman died during an illegal procedure to remove a goitre.
Douglas Mutoredzanwa appeared in court on Tuesday alongside his alleged accomplice, Perpetua Mataba, in connection with the death of Margret Gwamura of Njenje Village in Murehwa.
The court heard that on September 24, Mutoredzanwa allegedly invited Gwamura to Mataba’s homestead in Seke for the procedure.
Mutoredzanwa allegedly administered two injections to Gwamura’s neck before using a surgical razor blade to remove the growth.
The court heard that Gwamura began bleeding heavily following the procedure.
Mutoredzanwa allegedly attempted to stop the bleeding using cotton wool and a bandage, but was unsuccessful.
He allegedly fled the scene before Gwamura succumbed to the heavy bleeding.
Mutoredzanwa and Mataba were remanded in custody to October 9.
