VP Mohadi mourns Chivayo, hails his patriotism and philanthropy

Vice President Dr Kembo Mohadi has described businessman and philanthropist Wicknell Chivayo as a patriot whose life was defined by entrepreneurship, generosity and an unwavering commitment to national development.

In a condolence message following the helicopter crash at Kudenga Farm in Marondera last Wednesday, VP Mohadi said Zimbabwe had lost a young entrepreneur whose philanthropic work touched thousands of lives.

Chivayo died alongside his wife, Lucy, pilots Captain Kelvin Soda and Captain Courage Mutavirwa, and aide Sanelisiwe Magagula.

“It is with deep sorrow that I extend my heartfelt condolences on the tragic demise of businessman and philanthropist Mr Wicknell Chivayo and his beloved wife, Mrs Lucy Chivayo, two pilots, Captain Kelvin Soda and Captain Courage Mutavirwa, and an aide, Sanelisiwe Magagula, in the recent helicopter crash at Kudenga Farm in Marondera,” said VP Mohadi.

He joined President Emmerson Mnangagwa, First Lady Dr Auxillia Mnangagwa and the nation in mourning the deceased and conveyed his condolences to their families.

VP Mohadi said Chivayo had distinguished himself as a patriotic Zimbabwean, with his philanthropic footprint extending beyond the corporate world.

He said the businessman’s charitable activities had made a significant contribution to education, healthcare and community development, helping strengthen communities across the country.

Chivayo, who rose to prominence in the energy sector, was also widely recognised for his support of sport, particularly football. He donated buses and kits to Premier Soccer League and lower-division clubs and provided financial assistance to teams facing difficulties.

VP Mohadi said Chivayo’s passion for sport, coupled with his humility and generosity, earned him widespread affection.

“He was a man of good character, humble in nature and warm in disposition, qualities that won him the affection of many throughout society,” he said.

Describing Chivayo as a young patriot, the Vice President said his legacy would be defined by ambition, enterprise and service to others.

“He will be remembered both for his entrepreneurial spirit and for the many lives he influenced, as well as for his dedication to his country,” said VP Mohadi.

He said the country had lost not only a businessman, but also a benefactor whose contribution to society would endure.

VP Mohadi called for strength and comfort for the bereaved families as they come to terms with the tragedy.

Meanwhile, police and the Civil Aviation Authority of Zimbabwe are investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash.
