China’s 500-year-old Wu Opera tradition took centre stage at the 7 Arts Theatre in Harare, on Monday, with the Zhejiang Wu Opera Research Centre delivering a performance that drew enthusiastic applause from the audience.
The performance featured traditional vocals, colourful stage presentations and martial arts display, showcasing the rich cultural heritage of China’s Wu Opera.
The Chinese Embassy in Zimbabwe said the performance highlighted the role of cultural exchanges in strengthening ties between the two countries.
“This evening marked another highlight event of the 2026 China‑Africa Year of People‑to‑People Exchanges, epitomizing genuine dialogue and mutual learning between civilizations,” said the Chinese Embassy.
“The Chinese Embassy will continue to deepen people‑to‑people bonds with Zimbabwe in culture, youth engagement and education, further consolidating our long-standing bilateral friendship.
The event formed part of the 2026 China-Africa Year of People-to-People Exchanges, which seeks to promote cultural understanding, dialogue and mutual learning between China and African countries. It is expected to build further the longstanding bilateral friendship between Zimbabwe and China by expanding opportunities for cultural interaction and cooperation between their peoples.
