Warriors coach Michael Nees has urged midfielder Andy Rinomhota to secure a new club before the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) kicks off in December in Morocco.
Rinomhota has been without a club since July following his departure from English League One side Cardiff City after their relegation.
The 28-year-old was expected to find a new home last month, with Nees previously suggesting that a move was close to being finalised. However, nothing materialised, and the midfielder remains unattached.
As a result, Nees has since omitted Rinomhota from his recent national team selections.
“I have been in constant contact with Andy Rinomhota. I appreciate him a lot as a player and as a person,” said Nees.
“He started with me in the AFCON qualifiers and played all the games until March, which shows that I don’t doubt his quality.
“The situation is a bit strange — he had a great campaign with both his club and the national team, so it surprises me that he still doesn’t have a club.
“If a player is without a team, it’s difficult to call him up due to match fitness concerns. And if he gets injured, it becomes even harder — no club would sign an injured player who’s been out for months.
“The last time we spoke (during the September window), I thought everything was finalised, but it didn’t work out. I’m trying to help from my side, and I really hope he finds a new club soon.
“Andy must get a new team to regain match fitness; he would definitely be a strong candidate for the AFCON squad.”
As a free agent, Rinomhota is eligible to join any club outside the transfer window, though he may not be able to play competitively until the next registration period opens.
