Mutodi fired as chair of key finance committee

Honourable Energy Mutodi, the Member of Parliament for Bikita South, has been summarily removed from his position as Chairperson of the influential Portfolio Committee on Budget, Finance and Investment Promotion.

The termination was confirmed in a letter dated 7th  October 2025, signed by the Speaker of Parliament, Hon. Advocate J.F.N. Mudenda, in his capacity as Chairperson of the Committee on Standing Rules and Orders (CSROs).

According to the correspondence, the termination is pursuant to Standing Order No. 19 of the National Assembly.

The letter states unequivocally that the termination is effective immediately.

The removal strips Mutodi of all “benefits and entitlements attendant upon the said role,” which are to be “discontinued forthwith.”

No specific reason for the drastic action was provided in the official notification.

Copies of the termination letter were sent to the Government Chief Whip, Hon. P. Togarepi, and the Clerk of Parliament, Mr. K.M. Chokuda, formalising the procedure.

The Portfolio Committee on Budget, Finance and Investment Promotion is a crucial parliamentary body that oversees national fiscal matters, the treasury, and economic development strategies.

As of now, Hon. Mutodi has not made a public statement regarding his removal from the high-profile parliamentary post.
