Mutongi Arrested Over Kuwadzana Fund Drive

Police have arrested social media activist Josephine Mutongi in connection with her fundraising efforts and public activism following the tragic deaths of three children whose bodies were discovered in the trunk of a car in Kuwadzana Extension.

Mutongi is reported to have organised a solidarity march urging participants to dress in white, but authorities say she failed to obtain the required police clearance for the gathering.

During the children’s funeral, she allegedly collected cash donations from mourners without the consent of the affected families. She later uploaded a video online, claiming she was disbursing the funds she had gathered.

The activist has since issued an apology for her actions.

In a statement released on Tuesday, 14 October, the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) confirmed Mutongi’s arrest, noting that investigations are still underway.

“The ZRP confirms the arrest of Josephine Mutongi in connection with ongoing investigations. More details will be released tomorrow,” read part of the police statement.
