Chimbumu Primary School goes digital with new ICT equipment

Chimbumu Primary School in Guruve has entered a new era of digital learning following the installation of state-of-the-art Information and Communication Technology (ICT) tools, including laptops, a Starlink kit, and an interactive smart board. The development, made under the patronage of President Emmerson Mnangagwa, marks a major stride in Government’s commitment to ensuring equal access to quality education for all learners, regardless of location.

Speaking at the event yesterday, Mashonaland Central Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Honourable Christopher Magomo, emphasised that the new ICT tools would strengthen the implementation of the country’s heritage-based Education 5.0 philosophy.

“The equipment you have received today represents the latest technology. It will help you conduct research and innovate in line with President Mnangagwa’s vision of achieving an upper-middle-income society by 2030,” he said.

Parents, teachers, and students gathered on Saturday to celebrate the official handover of the digital learning tools, which are part of a broader national effort to bridge the digital divide between rural and urban schools. The initiative underscores the Second Republic’s vision of using technology to drive inclusive development and innovation in education.

Learners at the school expressed joy and excitement as they interacted with the new technology for the first time.

“I am happy because we now have laptops at our school. We can do research and learn new things we did not know before,” said one pupil.

Another learner added, “We are now going to be like other children who are learning ICTs. I thank President Mnangagwa for the computers, Starlink, and smart board.”

Teachers also welcomed the initiative, noting that it would greatly enhance teaching and learning processes. “As a member of staff, I am delighted with this positive development. It will make our lessons more interactive and improve our teaching outcomes,” said one teacher.

For the school administration, the donation represents a transformation long awaited.

“It seemed like a dream that would never come true. We have over 1,200 learners who did not know what a computer was. Even at the administration level, we only had one shared computer. This donation changes everything,” said Headmaster Arthur Chikazhe.

Government continues to prioritise access to modern technology in rural schools as part of its “leaving no one and no place behind” mantra. By empowering learners in remote areas like Guruve with digital tools, Zimbabwe is laying the foundation for a future where innovation, equality, and opportunity are shared across all corners of the nation.
