Zimbabwe Warriors captain Knowledge Musona has been hit with a hefty fine by FIFA following his red card during the 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers Group C clash against South Africa at Moses Mabhida Stadium in October.
The 35-year-old forward was sent off in the 64th minute after receiving a second yellow card for unsporting behaviour. According to FIFA’s disciplinary ruling, Musona was charged under Articles 14 and 14.1(b) of the FIFA Disciplinary Code, which address misconduct involving unsporting behaviour towards an opponent or another person.
As a result, Musona has been fined 5,000 Swiss francs (approximately US$6,200) and handed a one-match suspension, which he served during Zimbabwe’s subsequent qualifier against Lesotho later that same international window.
FIFA also imposed an identical fine on South African defender Mbekezeli Mbokazi, who was sent off in stoppage time of the same match following a reckless confrontation with Zimbabwe winger Tawanda Maswanhise.
The fiery Group C encounter ended in controversy, with both teams finishing a man short after the double dismissal.
