Zim golfer Krog in impressive form

Zimbabwean golfer Stuart Krog continued his consistent run on the Sunshine Tour, securing a four-way tie for 15th place (10-under-par) at the Stella Artois Players Championship in Johannesburg on Saturday.

This solid finish, achieved through four consistent rounds on the par 71 course (64, 70, 71, 69), marks his fifth top-20 finish of the season and further solidifies his best professional year since earning his tour card.

Decent Season for Krog

This result further solidifies what has been a decent season for the 29-year-old on the Sunshine Tour. Krog has now managed five top-20 finishes, including two top-10s. His best performance to date was a tie for fourth at VOG Devonvale, Stellenbosch, back in September. Currently, he sits in 36th position on the Order of Merit across 16 tournaments, positioning himself for his best season since earning his tour card.

Amateur Success to Professional Career

Krog began his golf journey in Harare, Zimbabwe, where he quickly ascended the junior and amateur ranks. A highlight of his early career was winning the Amateur Trophy at the 2015 Golden Pilsener Zimbabwe Open, where he was the only amateur to make the cut. His amateur success is decorated with titles like the 2015 Masvingo Amateur Championship and being the 2014 Zimbabwe Junior Stroke Play champion, which earned him the Zimbabwe Junior Golfer of the Year 2014 award.

His accomplishments paved the way for college golf in the United States. After graduating with a degree in Sports Management, Stuart turned professional in 2022. A successful run on the Betway Big Easy Tour secured his Sunshine Tour Card for the 2023-24 Season, where he continued to compete strongly.

Ritchie Brews Up a Victory

Meanwhile, JC Ritchie continued his exceptional form by claiming the Stella Artois Players Championship title. After a 36-hole Saturday grind, Ritchie finished two shots clear of the field on 17-under-par.

He shared the third-round lead with Bryce Easton (63) on 15-under, then carded a final round of 69 to seal the victory. Christiaan Burke (67) and Oliver Bekker (70) shared second place on 15-under-par, while Hennie de Plessis finished tied for fourth on 14-under-par following his impressive return from injury.
