MASVINGO — Four people died and 14 others were injured on Sunday after a Munenzva bus carrying 26 passengers veered off the road, overturned, and landed on its roof along the Masvingo–Beitbridge Road, police have confirmed.
The crash occurred at around 5:20 PM. Images and videos from the scene showed the Cape Town-bound Scania bus lying on its roof as emergency teams attended to the victims.
The injured were first taken to Rutenga Clinic before being transferred to Neshuro Hospital for further treatment. The bodies of the deceased were also taken to Neshuro Hospital, where post-mortems are expected to be conducted. Police said the names of the victims will be released once their families have been informed.
In a statement, the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) expressed condolences to the bereaved families and urged drivers to strictly follow road regulations. They warned that negligence, poor vehicle condition, and speeding continue to contribute to fatal accidents.
“As the country approaches the festive season, we urge vehicle owners and drivers to… help promote road safety,” the police said, emphasising the need for regular vehicle servicing, proper tyre maintenance, and functional windscreens and wipers—particularly during the rainy season.

With heavy rains forecast, motorists were further warned against attempting to cross flooded rivers and bridges.
“The Zimbabwe Republic Police urges motorists to be responsible and work closely with law enforcement agents to curb road traffic accidents,” the statement added.
