FIFA President Gianni Infantino has extended warm congratulations to newly crowned Castle Lager Premier Soccer League champions Scottland, celebrating their remarkable achievement in their first-ever season in Zimbabwe’s top-flight league.
In a letter addressed to the Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA), Infantino praised the club for its exceptional discipline, teamwork and consistency qualities he said reflect the rising competitiveness of Zimbabwean football.
Scottland, affectionately known as Mabviravira, etched their name into the history books by becoming only the second club to win the league title in their debut season, a rare accomplishment last seen nearly four decades ago when Black Rhinos clinched the championship in 1985. Their success has sparked renewed excitement and debate within football circles, with analysts pointing to a shifting landscape where new clubs are increasingly challenging traditional giants.
Infantino noted that Scottland’s triumph was not just a victory for the club, but a positive reflection of Zimbabwe’s evolving football ecosystem. He also commended ZIFA for its ongoing efforts to strengthen football development across the country through strategic reforms, improved governance and investment in youth structures.
The FIFA president emphasised the importance of these foundations in producing competitive clubs capable of excelling both domestically and on the international stage.
With the league title now secured, Scottland’s attention turns to continental football, where they will make their maiden appearance in CAF competitions. Their entry onto the continental stage is expected to provide a true test of the club’s depth, tactical maturity and long-term vision.
